The next time you go for a breast screening, it could be a whole new experience. There is an FDA study underway with thousands of women participating, to see how CT screening compares to mammography.
The new technology is a non-compression, ten second scan of each breast that requires the patient to lie down on their stomach rather than standing up.
Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski of Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center says explains the research study titled: Cone Beam Breast CT for Breast Cancer Screening. If the FDA approves it, we could see it in place within a year.
I am one of the study participants and found it quick, less awkward, and much more comfortable than the traditional mammogram.
